I have an 87 Taurus V/6, 3.0. It backfires through the air intake on acceleration from a stop, worse when it is cold (engine temp) have replaced plugs and wires, cleaned the throttle body, replaced the TPS, replaced fuel pump and fuel filter, put injector cleaner in gas all to no avail. Had one mechanic tell me he suspected the computer. Any suggestions?
Thanks,

If it backfires through the intake thenit may be an exaust valve that is not working, either from a bent pushrod, a broken rocker arm bad lifter or a worn out pushrod. You can take a valve cover off if you know which cylinder it is. If you short out each cylinder until the backfiring stops that would be the cylinder. Then check for teh above reasons.
