When using a test light what would cause the fan or solenoids to click or turn on when checking the wire to see if it has power. We grounded the lead onto the negative terminal after we had hooked up the lead we stabbed the probe into the wire and the fan came on, then we stabbed another wire and the solenoids started to click

Cooling fans? The green wire is the ground and if you probe that wire and the fans come on, you have verified all the wiring and controls except the ground that you probed. It goes to a switch on the head. The switch may be bad and has to be tested.
