What is ticking is the lifters. On those boxer engines they do have a tendency sometimes to tick. To correct it the lifters will have to be tightened. I have a 99 outback and one of the lifters on the driver side has been ticking for over 30,000 miles and have 60 lbs of oil pressure, or since I bought the car. Now it has on it 156000 miles. A garage can do the job.
