Sending unit does not work

Can the fuel sending unit be rebuilt if so where can I get the kit, or will a unit for a 17 gallon tank for a 2.9 fit a 2.8 with a 17 gallon tank?

Sending units normally cannot be rebuilt. I don't know of anywhere that can do this type of thing. You'll just have to replace it.
I'm not sure if these tanks are interchangeable.
