Set idle to spec, but dies in reverse only. Maybe a low/reverse band adjustment?

It's probably a carb problem unless the carb has been updated to be able to use alcohol in fuels. It needs an overhaul

New carb! Did the same thing with old one. It only dies in reverse. And I don't use the methanol.

I you use any gas used today it has alcohol in it depending on where you are it can have 10% or 15%. But, have you tried adjusting the air mix? Screw in screw lightly seat an dback off about a turn and a half. Make sure carb is tight onmanifold with no vacuum leaks. That includes checking hoses, etc. It shold also idle about 750-800 in gear.
