1976 Toyota Pickup adjusting carburetor on 20r engine

I have a 76 toyota hilux with 20r motor. How do you set or adjust my carburetor. And how digreas on my timing. I think I have couple things going on but I touched the carb screws and not its running but turns off. So I wanna set the screws on the carb and then start check why battery is not staying charged. Help and thanks.

First check battery for condition including load test. Then check to see if it's charging when running. Does this have points or electronic ignition? If it has points they need to be fixed prior to doing any timing adjustments. The car b probably needs an overhaul due to todays fuel with the alcohol that is in it.
