Thats a good idea I was just thinking they said they had spark so that would mean the rotor is turning.

If you spray it and you have good spark. Youll need to check the engine timing of the motor.

Thanks for all your help guys. I hope it's the fuel tank sock. I just bought the car two weeks ago, and from the outside everything looked good.

If your sparying it and it wont start. That has nothing to do with the sock. Remove the valve cover and check to see if the valve train is oper. Properly.

I did the following when I got home yesterday:

1. Lifted the distributor cap to look at the rotor, while bumping the engine. The rotor does turn. So I tightened the distributor back down.

2. Reviewed my fuel pump installation. Previous owner put a fuel filter between the fuel pump inlet line(from the tank) to the fuel pump. I disconnected the inlet fuel filter, and blew
through it.

I bumped the engine while the inlet filter was off. No fuel came through the inlet line itself.

Reconnected the the inlet filter(it wasn't clogged)and inlet line to the fuel pump, bumped the engine, it turned but didn't start.

I took the fuel pump off, returned it to autozone, and got a replacement fuel pump.I did notice when I took the fuel pump off(the one I returned to autozone) there was little fuel dripping from it. I assumed some fuel is getting to the fuel pump, but not enough to start the motor.

Got the replacement fuel pump home, installed it correctly, bumped the motor, and it turned, but it didn't start.

Lastly, I took one plug wire of the distributor cap, bumped the motor, and there was a strong spark.

After seeing the spark I stopped working, and went inside.

As the rotor did turn, I assumed the cam is turning, and thus the fuel pump push rod is pushing fuel through the pump. I further assume the fuel pump isn't receiving enough fuel to turn the engine.

Are my assumptions correct?

I'm believing the sock(strainer) is plugging the tank. What do you guys think?

What would you do next?

All your assistance is greatly appreciated. I thank you.

I understand.

I don't own an air compressor though. Could I take the gas cap off, and try blowing through from there(gas station pump insert).

You have to blow thru the fuel inlet like I have been telling you we have to make sure the sock isnt clogged. Also the distributor may be turning but we still dont know if the cam jumped time.

No, it didn't start when I sprayed carb cleaner and bumped the.

I'll try again.

Guys imagine this:

When a ignition distributor becomes loose(out of timing), one can crank their engine, but it won't start. That is, until the distributor gets set in the right place.

Further if one's distributor some how becomes out of timing, and the person trouble shoots their fuel first, could they possible find the same symptoms that I have personally described to you(e.G. No fuel to the carb, or fuel pump etc.)?

I'm haven't noticed my ignition distributor being loose, but I'm wondering if it is. I'll see when I get home.

I'm an individual that can do bolt-on replacement part, change plugs/wires, oil, and other light duty things to a motor. I do not know the ins and outs of how the internal parts work to help an engine run.

With that being said can anyone possibly explain how to set distributor timing, without a time light(to a dummy lol)?

I'm not sure if my distributor is loose, but when I get home I'll check. And if it is, the above info request will help me alot.

Best regards,
Marcell

If your distributor is loose and moved out of time that wont keep the fuel pump from pumping fuel. So check that and see what you find but we still have to solve the problem of no fuel pumping up to the carb. Also dont put raw fuel into carb to try to start it thats so dangerous the engine could pop and shoot a fire ball out of the carb. Just use some carb spray.
