I am currently repairing my beetle and recently ran into a problem where the voltage keeps dropping when I turn it on. I know for certain it is the generator that is the cause of it. But what I want to know is what is the best method of changing the generator.

Best have the voltage regulator tested 1st, before you replace the generator-

You will have to take the engine out, this is very simple and quick, as the air shrouds are going to give you grieve, but as the last poster says just make sure that the reg is working correctly before going any further.
