Question: 1999 Toyota Camry, mileage: 78,990. Today my
power windows stopped working. I checked the
fuse box but nothing references the windows
and the manual is no help. All other
electrical systems are working, including
the power door locks. The power window lock
is not on. None of the 4 windows works. Is
this a motor problem (1 motor for all 4
windows) or am I missing something?
Answer: Check for
blown fuses in the main power distribution
center under thee hood.
Question: 1999 Buick
Century, mileage: 86,000. Power window (left
front) works partially (4 inches or so) then
needs a rest of 4-5 minutes before it will
work again (for an inch or two). With
patience it will open or close a little at a
time with repeated waits (rests). What is
the repair strategy?
Answer: You may be
having problems with the motor drawing too
many amps and kicking out a circuit breaker.
If this is the case, you will have to
replace the window motor.
Question: 2001 Pontiac
Transport, mileage: 82,000. What would cause
the power window on the passenger side not
to open or close? The window was working
intermittently, and then it completely stops
working. Both switches (the driver side and
passenger side) for the window were
activated at the same time. The power lock
and the light for the window switch are
still operational. The fuse (30 amp, only
one for both windows) is still good.
Currently the window is in the down
position. Until permanent repairs, can I get
that window back up? Need your advice
desperately! By the way, I am not
mechanically inclined.
Answer: The power
window motor is shorted and needs replacing.
Question: 1998 Dodge
Caravan, mileage: 155,000. The power windows
on my Caravan don't work. The owner's manual
states that the fuse for the power windows
is a resetting fuse "serviceable only by an
authorized dealer." How do I reset the fuse
- I don't want the hassle of a service
visit!
Answer: The resetting
fuse that they refer to is the body control
module (BCM). The reset fuse replace it with
a new one
Question:
1998 Dodge Caravan, mileage: 106,000.
Hi guys! This is my first time at
this, but I figured I'd give it a shot!
The manual windows on my van are stuck....
the passenger side is down half way and
won't budge (not so great this time of year
in central NY!) and the drivers' side window
WILL go down, but you need to be Hercules to
get it back UP! Something's definitely
wrong. Is it something a woman with no
car experience whatsoever can fix? I
don't even know how to get the door panel
off to look inside! Money is very
tight here, so I'd like to try to do it
myself.... Can you please help?
Thanks!
Answer:
On the window that works hard, you might
try placing some lubricant on the window
tracks. This will lubricate the track
so that the window does not drag.
Question:
1999 Volkswagen Jetta, mileage: 102,000.
I have a question regarding my driver side
power window system. About two months ago,
the window started acting up. The
symptoms are: 1. Whenever I
tried to close the window, it always stopped
in the middle. I have to try to press
the power window button several times in
order to fully close my window. What
caused this problem? Is it the switch
going bad, the control module or the motor?
2. There are also times when I could not
even open or close the window. I have
to wait several minutes in order to do
anything with that window. 3. Where
should I start to diagnose the problem?
Answer:
It sounds like you have a window regulator
that is failing.
Question: 2002 Ford
Taurus, mile: 89,000. Window on driver’s
side has had a problem. It does not seal
perfectly. I opened up the panel, looked
inside, and was surprised there was a bar in
the door. It looks like it was supposed to
be attached to the bottom of the window to
stabilize it (just a guess). Is this part of
the window assembly or? Oh and the keyless
entry keypad works for all doors but the
drivers side. How can I fix this myself?
Answer: The "extra"
bar you found inside your door probably the
safety impact rail. The problem with the
keyless entry sounds like a bad solenoid
that operates the lock in that door.
