This is the classic symptom of a failing crankshaft position sensor or camshaft position sensor. They often fail by becoming heat-sensitive, then they work again after cooling down for an hour or so. While driving, natural air flow keeps them cool. When a hot engine is stopped, the engine heat migrates up to those sensors and causes them to fail. That is called "hot soak". That usually occurs when stopping for gas, but in your case the sensors might not get hot enough to fail that quickly.
