My inside fan only blows on defrost, it will not change to the floor or to the vents.
I hear a sound like it's behind the radio.
I know for certain it's not behind the glove box.
That one behind glove box is for the re-circulation of the air.

You are correct. If you hear the clicking behind the radio then most likely the actuator is stripped and not able to actually move the door. This actuator is on the left side of the HVAC housing which would put it just behind the radio.

You can access it by removing the lower trim on the driver side. Take a look at the rest of the attachments.

Thanks

I had already taken the one out on the passengers side but it was for the recirculation air valve. This one was working fine plus the gears (I took it apart) were not broken. Do you think it's the best to buy a new one or replace the gear if that's the problem?

These are pretty cheap so I would just replace it and not mess with trying to fix it. But depending on what is wrong with it, I guess it could be fixed.

I looked underneath the dashboard on the drivers side and did not find that part but I can hear it behind where the radio is when I change it from defrost to the floor vent and to the other positions.
Is this part a black box that I'm looking for?

I still haven't found that part yet. I took all the parts off the drivers side and looked up on the inside and didn't see it. I will look again. Do you have anymore tips?

So you are going to be looking from the driver side towards the passenger side and it will be on the side of the HVAC housing closest to the driver side.

Unfortunately it is not the easiest one to find and more then likely you will be laying on your back on the driver side floor in an awkward position in order to find it.

I will look for more detail or maybe a video so you can see a little better.

I found it and it was on the passenger side, the same side the actuator for the re-circulation is on. Took it apart and that large plastic gear is cracked.
I might just buy that gear and replace it. I appreciate your help, it helped me out a whole lot. Thank you

I am so sorry. They normally orient these pictures as if you are looking at it from the driver seat so I never gave it a second thought. Take a look at the picture again and I put a blue arrow at the heater core tubes. That is going out to the engine so this is actually spun around.

That is frustrating. Sorry again and glad you got it figured out. Thanks for the update, I am sure that will help others and not just me. Thanks

My gear is broken, the auto parts stores do not sell that part and the cheapest I could find it online was $86.00 plus shipping and tax so I just ordered the gear for about $16.00.
What tipped me off was the re-circulation actuator being on the same side, I had already been to that actuator so I knew they were both on the same side. Thanks again.

This item mode door actuator is discontinued from the dealership, we either buy that large gear or find a junk yard. Thanks

Here is the picture of the broken gear, it has 51 teeth or gears, whatever you might want to call them but I ordered this gear from eBay. I haven't received the gear but will let you know the outcome where you might be able to help someone else.

Thank you so much. This info is of great help. Most people that visit this site just read others posts and don't actually ask a question so people like you help them more then you may know.

Thanks again.

That's possible, that gear should be here Saturday. Will let you know the results, bought the gear (51 teeth or gears) on eBay. GM doesn't stock that complete assembly anymore so we must buy the broken gear or go to the junk yard for one.
