I did a check engine light scan and its blinking Code 21. What is this and what would it take to fix? Is it expensive? I don’t want a mechanic to overcharge me.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

The Code 21 is for the V-TEC control solenoid which can come up if the engine is low on oil or the oil needs to be changed. So, I would check the oil level and change it if it is time to do so (dirty oil). If the oil is full here is the location of the valve and the labor time to change it out.

PURPOSE
The Variable Valve Timing Pressure Switch signals the Engine Control Module (ECM) when the Variable Valve Timing and Valve Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) system has applied oil pressure to the rocker arm assembly, engaging the secondary cam rocker arms.

OPERATION
The switch normally provides continuity to ground for its blue/black striped wire when the VTEC system is not activated. When the proper operating conditions have been met, the switch removes ground from its circuit, signaling the ECM that the solenoid has allowed high pressure oil into the rocker arm assembly.

21 - Variable Valve Timing Components, Oil Pressure Switch 37250P07003 $135.18

Variable Valve Timing Pressure Switch 0.2 hrs @ the shop rate.
