Vsc and engine light are on.

Just purchased the car for my daughter. Car fax showed very detailed maintainence records so I'm pretty sure the car has been well cared for. That said the vsc and check engine light came on. We took to a local shop and a small hose behind the filter had come loose. The mechanic put the hose back on reset the computer and the lights went off. After 500 miles and many engine starts, the vsc and check engine light came back on. Any thoughts? Of note it was raining both times it can on. Is there any coincidence? Thanks in advance for any help.

What were the codes? Were they the same as before? There are over 1500 possible codes for failures.
