We recently drove thru some heavy rain and large puddles on the highway. One week later the car was idling roughly and when you press on the gas, the RPM's only goes as high as 2000. That's in drive or in park. The on board computer had three message's. 1. ABS warning 2. STC warning and 3. Engine system warning. We let the car sit for a week. The only warning now is the Engine system warning. The engine acts the same way as a week ago. I know I will probably have to bring it to the dealer, but I want to go in there with some knowledge about the problem. Can you show me how to tune it up? Thank you! Please Help!

Hello,

It sounds like the engine is in 'limp mode' or low power mode. That's why the engine is limited to 2,000 RPMs.

Driving through water could damage several components. Especially engine or electrical components. Your ABS components probably got moisture in them due to driving thru water. Best plan of action should be visually inspect the vehicle for any sign of water and clean out any connectors that might have gotten wet. Then Follow the engine tune up process (look below article). You also might want to disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for a minute then reconnect it. This might reset the codes.

Unless you have already done so, change your oil and filter, just incase you have water in the engine.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
