This morning when I started my Volvo 1999 S70, the indicator lamp in the instrument panel with arrow for W on the gearbox started to flash and the check engine light came on. I shifted the gear to the L and then to the P position. Now the lamp is not flashing but the check engine light still is on. Please explain the cause. Should I take the car to a Volvo dealer or the check engine light will go off at a letter time? Thank you

You need to take it in to a shop to have it diagnose. If the "W" flashed at you then the check engine light code will be tolet you know there is a code stored in the transmission control module. Volvo can diagnose that for you or you can take it in to a transmssion shop specialst to have it diagnose also. Good luck.
