Tires and Wheels problem
1998 Volvo S70 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 182000 miles

I recently had my front and back axle assembly replaced, my left front sway bar link and a spring seat front strut mount within 4 months of each other. After this particular work was performed, should a front end alignment be done to make sure the tires are rolling correctly?
Within a few months of this work, I noticed my front tires were starting to wear excessively on the outside tread of the tires. I then started noticing a "shimey" in the steering wheel.
Well come to find out, the Assurance comfort tread front tires which I purchased in 3/2008, with less then 13k mileage on them had a tread measure of 4 out of 10 and the back still had 9.
I believe the repair shop who did all the work on my axles, etc. Did not give me a front end alignment and caused my tires to incorrectly wear. According to a major tire manufacturer, they say an alignment is necessary when replacing these parts.
Please let me know your opinion. Thanks.

Did you have the alignment checked when you first bought your tires? You could have had some issues before then? Also what kind of tires do you have? When replacing axles or end links you do not need to have an alignment check. When removing the strut you can usually mark the location and try to put it back on the same spot but normally I would recommed an alignment check after having to remove the struts. At the very least they should have given you the option of an alignment? If you are having tie rods or steering racks replaced then you would need to have an alignment.
