Hi guys,

My AC wasn't working and since everybody was telling me that the evaporator would be the problem, I decided to change it. After long hours of work, and with the help of Tech(thank you) I did get to the evaporator. I was surprised that I neither the pipes had no sign of freon nor the evaporator. I am confused now. Before changing the evaporator I checked and recharged the system(i believe I did so) since the gauge was showing 40 psi which was on the border with alert area. The ac compressor clutch was engaging but no cold air. Would it be possible that the evaporator isn;t leaking but still not working. Btw Tech u wrote in your post that u replaced the evaporator but that wasn't the problem. Did u find out what it was?
Help. I don't know what to do.

If you evacuated the system and it was full, you should have stopped there before going through that painfull procedure? So what I actually need to know is when you had the A/C sytem drained, was it really empty or full? Did you open up any lines? If you did, did you have the system vacuumed to get moisture out of the system? If you did not, you need to have the system drained and have the system vacuumed of moisture and recharge it again. Once you do you need to do an A/C performance test and that consist of monitoring the compressor cycles for on and off and monitoring the gages and checking how cold it gets at the vents. Check low pressure line to see if it is cold and high pressure line to see that it is getting hot. Also does the blower motor work? If all that is good, you would need to have the damper motors calibrated and see if that helps? If it does not further diagnosis would need to be done? If the climate control module, a temperature damper motor, or climate box needs replacing, calibration will need to be done again.
