I have a 2001 volvo s40. Lately when I first start the car for the day it wont start right away, I have to keep my foot on the gas and let it kinda warm up ( although it does it when its hot outside too) if I take my foot off the gas it will die. After I start driving and for the rest of the day its fine I may have to turn it a couple of times to start but it will not die once its started. I just replaced the spark plugs that didnt help at all any other ideas of what it could be? I hate going to the repair shop because me being a female they always seem to take advantage especially if I seem like I dont know what im talking about. Which I dont! Thanks for any help!

Check your fuel pressure regulator for leaks. Easy way to check is before your next start. Remove the vacuum hose and check for fuel. If fuel is present it is flooding out your car when it sits for a while causing your hard start. If that is ok your idle air control valve may be sticking. Remove the 2 screws to remove the valve. Becareful not to damage the gasket. If it stayson the intake just leave it there and dont touch it. Get some carb cleaner and clean inside the idle control valve and make sure the valve slides back and forth smoothly using a small pocket screwdriver. Hope this helps.
