1993 Volvo 940 Repair Question

1993 Volvo 940 won't start at various times
I have a 1993 volvo 940 wagon 4 cyl automatic. At times it will not start. Sometimes it will run perfectly but then on the next time out it may not start at all. Twice it has cut off while driving (while coasting at low speed.) The car is sparking properly and I can hear the fuel pump running when the ignition switch is turned on. A code check turned up an idling control sensor. What are the possible problems? Thanks for your help.

Hi cshane,
When the engine cannot start, usually the crank sensor is faulty though you might not get the code.
Check if the wire cover of the crank sensor is bad, it usually is brittle and cracks.
The idling sensor might be a byproduct of this or it could be faulty too. Check if the wire socket is bad. Erase the code and see if it comes back.
