1993 Volvo 940 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

hi I was wondering if you could help I have a volvo 940 2.3 auto and earlier today I was driving and without warning I lost all forward gears - 1st 2nd 3rd and drive but I still have reverse any help please as I cannot afford to take it to a garage

First check fluid level in trans. With engine running.

If OK, then check shift cable from console to trans. Have someone move lever to all gears and watch cable at trans. Hopefully a bolt is loose, or bracket broken.

If all the above is OK, then it is internal to trans and would have to be diagnosed by shop, some chains are offering free diagnosis, so at least you will know where you are at.

If trans requires rebuild, look for good used trans at junkyard.
