2.3 T5 I have a very bad cv joint on passenger side. I was getting 22 mpg ave. now down to 12.8. Is this a probable cause?

i doubt it. this would be a first ive heard of. do you notice black soot around your tail pipe? is your check engine light on? does it flash? let us know, we'll get to the bottom of this.

No. The check engine light never comes on and yes there is black soot covering the inside of the tailpipe...dry not oily.

my educated guess is you have a lazy oxygen sensor. your o2 sensor is staying on the lean side, so your computer tries to compensate and dumps in more fuel. have the o2 sensor checked out by your repair shop, we have scanners that can actually watch the voltages live. hope this helps
