1988 volvo 760 sedan 186,00 miles 4 cly turbo
When I turn on my right hand turn signal my backup lights blink. I had noticed earlier in the day that the turn signals would not blink when activated. That problem resolved itself but resulted in the condition explained above.
Would a faulty turn signal blinker controller (i dont know the true name of it) cause this?

I suspect grounding from corrosion or rust is more of an issue. Running a wire to the battery or a good known ground might resolve your problem.
