First, let me say that I know enough about fixing cars to be dangerous: 1981 Vanagon purchased after previous owner had given up on converting from fuel injection (aka fuel rejection) to carburetor. I suspect but am not sure it is a wiring problem. A new wire goes from the ignition switch to the newly installed (low psi )fuel pump and on to the coil. The wire looks kinda small, but I think it is 16 gauge which is what I was told was the correct size. I took out the electronic points/condenser, replaced with standard and I purchased and installed a new weber carb kit #K297.
Now, the car will fire up but does not stay started, it just stops firing after a few seconds. What should I do? Thanks, Jon
