1981 Volkswagen Van cj joints or clutch?
Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
1981 Volkswagen Van 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 65,987 miles
my 81 westfalia, When letting the clutch out in 1st gear kind of shutters or bucks then when clutch is fully out is fine, It is more noticable while trying to let clutch out in 1st to climb an incline at a stop position, There seems to be no slipping in the higher gears as in high RPMS my cv joint boots are torn and am just wondering if that 1st gear shuttering is the joints starting to go or my clutch, Though im leaning more twords the joints, This is more noticable now that i had to attempt to "pop" start the van due to my battery dying.

It's the clutch, when the CV cage does shatter, and from the sound of it, that's not too far off now, the van will not move!
