Recently, my drivers side car door lock broke causing the key not to work for that door. The same day that broke when I went secured my car I came out to find all my windows were down. This has been ongoing now for the last few days, when I secure the car and come out after 3/4 hrs, I will find all the windows down? Is this related to the lock being broke?

Yes It likely is.
There is a switch in the drivers door lock that allows you to roll the windows up and down with the key from outside the car.
You will have to remove the door panel and disconnect the wire from the door latch to disable this until you get it fixed.

Does anyone have this problem? My beloved 1998 VW Passat E_st TDi central locking mechanism flicks on and off whilst car is unattended. Hazard lights flash and then all electric windows roll down. All this happens whilst car is unattended. Any answers please?
