:?: I have had a problem for a while now, until recently my Jetta ran... At first, I had problems starting the car. It would crank fine one day, and the next, it wouldn't do anything at all... 5 min later, it would crank. When it ran, it ran FINE. Now, it doesn't start at all... It will turn just fine, but won't catch. The fuel pump is fine... The filters are good. The plugs/wires are new... The battery is fine. This morning, I tried cranking it, over and over, and fuel started coming out thru where my air filter is... I replaced some lines yesterday, and all are in tact, and in the right place. First, I'd like to know where the fuel safety switch is located somewhere in the rear, and if that may be tripped... Secondly, do these things have a relay for the fuel injection? If so, could that be shot?!

This sounds like a problem I had a few weeks ago. Turns out it was the fuel filter needed replacing. Didnt cost much...about $110.00

Good Luck!

i am having the same trouble right now with my 96 passat. I know enought to be dangerous but it seems the only things i can think it would be, is either the o2 sensor or the fuel filter.

My Jetta did the same thing, but actually stopped in the middle of the road and then would not start again. Check the coil, I had a wire touching the coil and it was causing it to arc and not start. I moved the wire and it fired right up! I also replaced the fuel filter after this, evidently these filters should be replaced often.
