I have a WV Golf 1996 and it has 150000 miles on it. Here is the problem. I am driving and all of the sudden the car loses the power like it is in N gear (no matter how much I push the gas, the car is going to slowdown to stop). Now I pull to the side and just turn off the car and turn it back on and it is just fine right there. I even dont have to wait for a minute or two. As long as I Stop, turn off the car and restart it it is fine. But this is very scary when you driving in fwy and all of the sudden the car loses its power no matter how much you push the gas.
Please help.

So your saying that the car just sputters and dies, or its as if its in N and you can still rev it and it does not respond

Yes. Also sometimes when that happends it backfires also as I push the gas more. And as I mentioned before, as soon as I stop and restart the car the problem will go away. I have noticed that it does that in hot days more probably.
Do you have any Ideas?
