I have a 1997 VW Golf Trek edition and the air conditioner stopped working last summer, I didnt have the money and summer was almost over so I didnt deal with it. Finally I took my car in and on shop told me that it was the ac shut off relay and I went to another shop where they re tested it and told me that the relay was getting power and the problem was electrical, I have taken the car in 3 times now and there is still no answer on what the problem could be, please help I am dying in this summer heat

I'm not sure on the actual symptoms of your problem. Is the A/C blowing hot air? Is it not working at all when you turn the HVAC controls (the knobs inside the car)?

The fuse for the HVAC is probably blown, unless it's something worse. The wiring for the HVAC could aslo come loose. Since the pressure if good that means that there is an electrical problem, rather than mechanical. I'd try to check the wiring and the fuses. If none of those are the causes, I would replace the relay, no matter what they told you.

We have a 97 VW Jetta that did the same thing. We replaced the high pressure switch and everything started working fine. It cost us $97.00 at the VW dealership and we replaced it ourselves. It just screws on and off. Check for a checkoff valve before replacing and be careful because it is under high pressure.
