The Malfunction indicator light went on when I started the car today, and has not gone off all day. It is a steady light, not a blinking indicator light. The car has been used much more frequently in the last 2 months. The weather has been warmer recently and I have run the AC a few times now. The car seems to be running fine, no noises or loss of power. Do I need to take the car to the shop immediately for this light? Is there potential of me breaking down on the road? How serious of a problem could it be?

OBDII criteria is often sensitive to such things as leaving the fuel cap off or loose and setting faults for tank leakage management large leak detection. If this is the case and you report no other issues, then the next thing to do is have the car scanned, and if the fault is simple, then it can be ignored, if not, then address it at that time.
