1987 Other Volkswagen Models Car not starting

I have been driving this car (87' Volkswagen Scirocco) for litle less than a year now and this probleme just started about 2 weeks ago. the probleme is it will not start, the battery is new and the starter is about a year old. when I turn the key nothing happens, no even a clink, tick or groan from the engine. The lights and guages are fine, they don't go dime either. I have tried to replace the battery and the whole engine wiring harness.
