Engine Mechanical problem
2003 Volkswagen Jetta Four Wheel Drive Automatic 63000 miles

Hi,

I just had a smog check last week, and today, when I was driving to my cousin's house, the engine light popped up. Everywhere I go, it says to go to the dealer..and I was just wondering, do I have to go to the dealer? Is there anything else I can do?

The reason why I don't really want to go to the dealer is because I went last time for something (I can't remember right now), and it was just a really horrible experience. I waited forever. They charged us a load. They didn't do a very good job - they pumped way too much air in my tires, and I had a flat tired two days after that at school.

Thanks a lot.

Most any auto part store should be able to retrieve the trouble codes that your vehicle has stored, causing the engine light. Some auto part stores will do it free of charge
