Engine Mechanical problem
2003 Volkswagen Jetta Four Wheel Drive Automatic 63000 miles

Hi,

I just had a smog check last week, and today, when I was driving to my cousin's house, the engine light popped up. Everywhere I go, it says to go to the dealer..and I was just wondering, do I have to go to the dealer? Is there anything else I can do?

The reason why I don't really want to go to the dealer is because I went last time for something (I can't remember right now), and it was just a really horrible experience. I waited forever. They charged us a load. They didn't do a very good job - they pumped way too much air in my tires, and I had a flat tired two days after that at school.

Thanks a lot.

Most any auto part store should be able to retrieve the trouble codes that your vehicle has stored , causing the engine light. Some auto part stores will do it free of charge
