I hit a rock or something. Immediately afterwards my car began to whistle when you first start it and my check engine light came on. My brake pedal also went soft and it seems as though I have no brakes. The engine also went into EPC mode. The code brought up read mass air flow sensor, fuel mixture too lean, vaccuum leak. The break lines are fine, and I replaced the spark plugs. It seems as though the engine is missing. I unhooked the battery cable and it did nothing except turn the light off. HELP! Thanks

IT sure sounds like a vacuum leak. First the system creates a sucking noise that can be a described as a hiss or whistle most often.

Second, I believe the brakes are boosted by engine vacuum on that, so you are losing brake assist and having the brake loss.

Thirdly, the code does state vacuum.

Have someone else start the car while you listen for the area it is coming from. Keep doing this til you locate it.

IF you are having trouble isolating it, I can help with diagrams possibly. But you need to narrow it down as close as possible and post pics if needbe.

It was actually the vaccuum pump. We ordered a new one on line and everything is good to go. Thanks for your help!
