Drain coolant. Refer to Cooling system, draining and filling . Remove ribbed belt. Refer to Ribbed belt, removing and installing . Remove right headlight: Refer to 94 LIGHTS, SWITCHES - EXTERIOR Remove connecting pipe between charge air cooler and intake manifold. Refer to Charge air cooler components, assembly overview . Remove upper and center toothed belt cover and. Remove toothed belt from camshaft sprocket, injection pump sprocket and coolant pump sprocket. Refer to Toothed belt, removing, installing and tensioning Fig. 124: Identifying Coolant Pump, Idler Pulley, & Bolts Courtesy of VOLKSWAGEN UNITED STATES, INC. Remove bolt - 1 - from idler pulley - 2 - and press down approx. 30 mm. Remove coolant pump bolts - 3 - and carefully remove coolant pump - 4 - between engine bracket and rear toothed belt cover. Installing Installation is in reverse order of removal. Note the following: Moisten new O-ring - 5 - with coolant. Insert coolant pump - 4 - into cylinder block and tighten securing bolts - 3 -. Torque specification: 15 Nm NOTE:Coolant pump plug points downward. Install idler pulley - 2 - and tighten bolt - 1 - (replace). Tightening torque: 40 Nm plus an additional 90 ° ( 1 / 4 turn) Toothed belt, installing, tensioning. Refer to Toothed belt, removing, installing and tensioning . Install ribbed belt. Refer to Ribbed belt, removing and installing . Install connecting pipe between charge air cooler and intake manifold. Refer to Charge air cooler components, assembly overview . Install right headlight: Refer to 94 LIGHTS, SWITCHES - EXTERIOR Check headlight adjustment, correct if necessary. Fill engine with coolant. Refer to Cooling system, draining and filling .
