When I start my Jetta, it starts fine but it sounds like I am holding the key in the start position for longer than I actually am. In other words, everytime I start the car, it starts immediately but it makes the sound like I am turning over the key when the car is already running. I assume the starter is going. Can this be repaired or does it need to be replaced? How much should repair or replacement cost?

It could either be the starter solenoid or the ignition switch. Jumper starter and see if it stays engaged after jumpering. If it does, replace starter solenoid. If not, replace switch. You can also remove starter and have shop test it for free. Estimate for replacing starter solenoid is $270. Estimate for replacing ignition switch is $125.
