Engine Performance problem
2003 Volkswagen GTI 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive 98,000 miles

just changed spark plugs.
car did hesitate when shifting into 5th.
now it bucks and hesitates shifting into
1st, 2nd third fourth and fifth.
used to be real peppy.
The malfunction indicator light came on. While trying to merge on the hiway. It was blinking. And went out after obtaining speed.
Was wondering if this has anything to do with the spark pugs. Maybe I have the wrong ones.I asked the guy at the auto place. Any advice would be appreciated

It could be incorrect spark plugs causing the misfire. Double check part numbers and make sure you put the coilpacks on correctly. If they aren't pushed on completely they can misfire under load.

If the plugs are correct and the coils are installed correctly you'll need a scan tool to diagnose which cylinder is misfiring. You can unplug and switch the coils between cylinders and see if the misfire moves with them. You can then replace the bad coil or all four (recommended) once you verify it's coil(s).
