The starter motor on my vw golf 1.9TDI has failed. This is the third in last couple of years with the last one only lasting a month (bought it on e bay). The problem seems to be the same with all of them- the copper braided strap between the solenoid and the starter motor keeps burning out. Have you got any ideas what the fault with the car could be to cause this problem.

Thinking about it myself, could the flywheel the starter engages with be tight therefore causing excessive load on the starter motor?

There is a reason I don't buy stuff off of evil bay, warranties, and I have no restraint when I see good prices.

That stupid little copper wire is a real piece of work from some engineer who never worked on cars. You can just replace it with a piece of braided steel ground strap from the Help! Section of most auto parts stores. Other wise I suggest going and spending the extra cash at a parts store and getting a starter with a lifetime warranty. Then make sure that your battery is putting out enough juice for the starter.
