I can't get my VW oil pan off my car. It's in need of replacement, all the visible bolts have been removed, but all the prying in the world isn't getting it dislodged from the engine. Any tricks?

HI there, is this a 1.9 or 2 litre as the procedure is slightly different, anyway if all bolts are removed, the sump is chemically sealed and may take some effort to break the seal, re check that all bolts are out, and if so, the sump should come apart after the seal is broken.

It's a 2.0

I have inserted a putty knife and broken the seal in every place it will reach. Then I spent 5 hours with a flat bar and long flat head screw drivers prying down on it.

Again, all visible bolts have been removed.

There is some play in it now, it wiggles and I can pull it down about a quarter of an inch, but it still won't come off.

Any more suggestions?

Hi there,

Check the number of bolts you have removed against the number of bolt holes in the pic of the sump.
