1996 Volkswagen Golf 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 100K miles

The problem I am having with my car is the Oil light flashes and the engine alarm keeps going off after I drive the car for a few minutes. The interesting thing is there is plenty of oil and it is at the proper temperature when it goes off. I took the wires on the oil senders and this did not remedy the problem. Also, when I turn off the car, then turn it back on again, this remedies the problem for a few minutes and then it will start up again. The problem never occurs right when I turn the car on, only after it has been running. The strange thing is the car continues to run correctly, and I keep driving, with no hiccups whatsoever. It used to happen every few months, but now it happens much more often. I am in school right now so I only drive the car occasionally because it is at my parents house. Please help me figure out what is going on.

I have just recently done my oil change! Does this mean that I have to re-do the oil change to reset the bleep?

It might happen when oil density is too thin for you engine. It happend to me when I tried synthetic oil in my 70k mile engine. I changed the synthetic oil to a regular 15-50 multigrade oil and the problem went away. Good luck,
Jose
