Noises problem
2001 Volkswagen Cabriolet 4 cyl Automatic

Hello. My girlfriend's 2001 VW Cabrio is having a few problems involving stuttering while driving at speeds over 30 mph. Also, when she turns the vehicle while in motion she hears a slight grinding sound. She has gotten a few opinions from different mechanics, ranging from the transmission to the wheel bearings, fuel pump and exhaust. I'm sure the transmission guess is far out there, but the others are a possibility, I suppose. Does anyone think these diagnoses are feasible? I was also wondering if the CV Joints might have something to do with the grinding. And could the ignition wire cause the stuttering? Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

HI there,

I would be checking wheel bearings and the CV's first, although CV normally click if faulty, jack the wheel up and there should be no for or aft movement if you rock the wheel if so there is problem with a wheel bearing, replaced plugs and leads first for the electrical problem.
