2006 Volkswagen Beetle stalls while idle

My car has suddenly started stalling while sitting idle (such as at a stop light). It would re-start, but only after 10-12 attempts. The engine sounds like it wants to turn over but just doesn't.

I took it into the dealer and they tested it (transmission, battery are 2 things I remember them mentioning) and said everything passed. I added a fuel additive to the gas tank in case I had some bad gas or water in the tank. Car ran ok for a few days, but all in-town driving. This morning while on the interstate it suddenly went from 65 to 40 and wouldn't drive any faster. It then stalled while I was in motion. The car did restart but I don't know if it would drive over 40.

Help. I don't know what to check or try next.

Get the throttle drive ( Electronic power control ) and throttle position sensor and mass airflow sensor tested.

I talked to the dealer again this morning and he said these were checked as part of the engine check and did not give a fault code. Any other suggestions?

Possible causes below:

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
False air leakage.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard.
