2000 Volkswagen Beetle 4 cyl Automatic 117, 00 miles

had white smoke, no oil, filled, then more smoke all oil out tailpipe. Mechanic indicates bad "turbo" gaskets wore out allowing oil to flow thru. Says to replace "turbo" start at around $ 2000.
is this a VALID repair.
as I see parts for gasket etc. But no complete turbo.
forgive my ignornace, but Im not sure

Hi there,

I would get a compression test done first, white smoke with a diesel is unburnt fuel normally due to a low compression, have this check first.
