Take off no issues, no clunking noise at all, once you reach 60 MPH the whole car vibrates and if you go faster, it gets worse so I have to slow down, driving below that it is pretty much fine. Jacked up front wheels, no issues at 3-9 or 6-12, tires are decent, brakes are thick. Any suggestions?

Hi,

This can be caused by several things. For example, a bent rim, failing universal joint, axle shaft, shift in a tire's belt, and the list goes on.

Have you tried having the tires rebalanced? Also, is the vibration more apparent in the steering wheel or the floor/seat?

Take a look at this link. It explains how to check a universal joint.

Let me know.

I had tires balanced first, helped very little was able to go a bit faster before vibration starts, did alignment now I can do 63 MPH before it starts, they checked wheels, not bent. Very strange, I checked all bushings and joints for anything obvious and none, all average wear with nothing looking bad. The ride is soft but I feel it is bouncy, but these have air suspension, is it possible bad struts can cause that?

Hi,

Anything is possible, including a strut. However, if you have a true air ride suspension, chances are one side would be lower than the other.

Since everything you have checked is good, that leaves a wheel bearing or axle CV joint. Have they been inspected?

Let me know.

Put it up and turned and checked all things that can be turned. Here are some videos maybe you can see something that I can't.

Hi,

I watched all of them. The only thing I noticed was one of the axles (driver's side I believe) seems to be somewhat out of round. That could be due to the vehicle being lifted.

Everything else looks good and tight. Was there any in-and-out play at the wheels or play at the tie rods or ball joints?

Yes, actually both axles are doing that due to the reason you mentioned, first I thought they were bent. But if a problem only pops up at higher speeds only then only specific things could be wrong. No play at all at 3-9 or 6-12, that is the first thing I checked, nothing at all on all 4 wheels. And it had alignment and balance, very strange, and not a drop of oil anywhere.

Hi,

Since it only happens at high speeds, I totally agree with you. Something isn't balanced properly, and you don't feel it till that speed.

I know I asked this before, but did you confirm there isn't a shifted belt in one of the tires? Also, do you feel the vibration more in the steering wheel or the floor and seat?

Let me know.

I took it to a local OK store that sells used tires, I deal with then a lot. They balanced it and said it had none on the wheels on front. I only did the fronts. I will take it there again. Its more in the cabin itself not the steering, maybe 10% in steering rest is in the whole cabin shakes

I suspect it is one of the rear tires. Again, not being there makes it a bit more challenging for me, but I believe it is from the rear. Have them check for a shifted belt, a bent rim, or tire balance, or you could rotate them yourself to see if the vibration changes.

Let me know how things work out for you. I'm interested in knowing.

Take care,

Joe

So, I told the tire shop to remove the rear and check them. They said they are seeing some upper movements while balancing them, also some minor wear on inside, so I said let's just get need tires. They did not have them so I had it come back the next day, but they said let's put the fronts on back and back on front and see till tires get there. Wow the vibration is much worse, like I can't go over 35 MPH. Next day went and got tires replaced, turned out one of the wheels had about a liter of water inside it, that is why there was vibration. Replaced 2 tires and all is good.

Wow! Thank you for that update. How on earth did the water get inside the tire? In 40 years in the business, I've never seen that happen. Let me know if you have any ideas. I'm really interested in knowing.

I had a strong suspicion it was a balance issue and that much water would do it. LOL If we would have rotated them, you would have known right away.

Also, I'm glad to know the issue has been resolved. Feel free to come back anytime in the future if you have questions.

Take care,

Joe

Maybe it was dead flat and was raining and someone just inflated it without paying attention. Ya sane here, I knew it had to do with tires, but never had that much vibration from balance before so I doubted it.

I can only imagine what that felt like. LOL Regardless, I'm glad it's fixed and the vibration has stopped.

Please feel free to come back at any time in the future.
