Engine problem
1997 Vauxhall Corsa Engine Size unknown Two Wheel Drive Manual 87,000 miles

Hi, Im driving a 1.2 P reg corsa and have had trouble with the oil light. Whilst driving the oil light flashed up repeatedly, more often then not would occur when I put the clutch and brakes down. I opended the bonnet to find the end of the dip stick had snapped off and is somewhere in the oil sump.

I took it to a garage explaining the problem and how the engine made a noise which sounded as if there isnt enough oil in (there is I have checked)

The garage said it could be the cam shaft but were unsure. Any ideas? Greatly appreciated

Hi there,

Have the oil pressure tested with a master gauge, this will give a true indication of the oil pressure. Do this before considering any other option, as for the noise and the broken dip stick, is the noise there with the dip stick out? The end of the dip stick will not just fall off, the dip stick tube may have shifted or is loose and the crank is striking the dip stick, run the engine with the dip stick part with drawn and if the noise is gone, problem solved, if not then it is time to investage a little further.
