Engine Mechanical problem
2002 Vauxhall Astra 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

my astra coupe started to make a funny noise then died on me.when i try to start it all the dash lights etc come on and you can hear a slight clicking under the bonnet but no attempt of the engine turning over.for tha last week i have noticed that if my engine is ticking over the temp guage starts to rise but as soon as mobile again cools down.please please shed some light on my problem as my nightmare at the moment is the thought of having to purchase a new engine !!!!!

sounds like you may have a flat battery ... you need to get the vehicle started before we can assist further on the other fault ?

jump/bump start the car again ... get a voltmetre and test across the battery terminals .. you should get a reading of 13.8 - 14.5 volts .. if not replace the alternator ... most good autoparts stores will do this test for you ... if you are getting a good reading in the range above repalce the starter motor .. hope this helps
