2000 Vauxhall Astra alternator

Hi the alternator bearing is starting to go without taking it out how can I tell what make it is, should I go for a secondhand one, anyway of getting a cheaper one than vauxhalls, are there any copies out there that I should adviod if so how do I tell the difference, is repairing it an option.

Most good autoparts stores will be able to tell you the make and model of the alternator fitted. I would never use a secondhand (used) unit. The best replacement would be an OEM (dealer) unit. Your cheapest option would be to have yours reconditioned.
