I have an 1.7 d astra van I've been told it has an isuzu engine.
Anyway when I'm driving the engine makes a rattling sound and if I go over 3000 revs it kicks a load of smoke out and seems to dip in power for a few seconds.

I've not had the van long and It had a recon engine fitted around 10,000 miles ago
Also it's just started getting harder to start it's making a funny sound when I turn the engine over,
This is when it's cold once the engines warm it starts first time

Regards

Hello .. thanks for the domation ..much appreciated The rattling sound could be from anywhere (tappets/belt pulley's/something loose) you need to get the vehicle looked at by a tech. who can physically see and hear the vehicle .. most garages diagnose faults for free ..explain your fault and let them diagnose and repost for repair instruction's Diesels are alway's harder to start in the cold weather .. try replacing the battery and glow plugs .. replace the fuel filter and add a good deisel fuel addative to the tank .. hope this helps.
