Should the crank shaft bolt be clockwise or anti clockwise to undo it?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

I need the correct year and engine size. The Escort wasn't introduced until 1981.

Let me know.

Hi Joe.
Thanks for your reply. I am actually not sure of the engine size! The engine is actually in a boat! All I know is that it is a 1974/5 engine fitted to the forerunner of the escort. It produces 80bhp
Cheers

Welcome back:

Without knowing the specifics, that's a tough one to answer. What I suggest is this. Take and put a socket on the bolt with a good breaker bar. Smack it with a dead blow hammer in the counter clockwise directions a few good times. It should break loose. If it refuses to, then it could be a reverse thread, but to be honest, that would be an odd one.

Let me know if it comes loose for you.

Take care,
Joe
