Hi there,

I took my car to a mechanic for a system test.
He has said that I need to change the Turbo and it would cost me around £900.
I was think of buying a second hand turbo, but I want to know which one to buy. How can I get the right turbo?

Good morning,

There should be a tag on your turbo to identify it. The number must be exactly the same if you are looking for a replacement whether new or used.

If you get the wrong one, you will have all kinds of odd driveability issues.

If you get the number, post it here and I will see if I can track it down.

Hi there Roy,

Many thanks for your help. :)

To be honest I am not keep on spending  900 on a car that is valued  1200 !

So I really want to know if it is the turbo and not something else because looking at the service of the car it has had the turbo actuator with sensor been replaced. It could be this and can possibly save me a huge amount !

This may be helpful:

These signs come up in my car ('Engine Malfunction' and 'Transmission Service' and the Traction control sign) and the car would feel heavy and would not be able to accelerate whatsoever.
I have to stop and turn the car off and turn it back on, to find all the signs gone.
Are these things related to a turbo?

Many thanks again. And I will try my best to get that tag on my turbo.

Okay, can you give me the codes that are set in the system?

Did you verify the hose to the turbo and the charge air cooler are tight and there are no leaks?

Well, I didn't do the test on the car. I took it to a garage and he told me it's the turbo.
So not sure if he has checked the hose to the turbo and the other stuff.

I did ask him for the code that said it was the turbo and he allowed me to take a pic (this is attached to the reply).

Also, I took it to do an MOT test today and they said I have to change all 4 of my tires and get them tracked (get wheels set to the optimum position) and he said that the Traction control sign issue should be solved.
How accurate is this?

Many thanks again Roy for your help.

The codes do indicate the turbo could be the issue.

What diagnostics did they do to confirm it? Just because it set codes does not mean it is the turbo.

I would get a second opinion. It sounds like he is guessing.

You could also tell him that if you give him the okay to do it, you will not pay for the repair if it does not fix it.

I see. Then can you please give me your opinion on the MOT test?
They said its the tires and that if I change all 4 of my tires and get them tracked (get wheels set to the optimum position) it should solve the Traction control sign issue.

Many thanks for your time Roy.

Site rules tell me I can only deal with one issue at a time.

The MOT issue requires you to start a new question. Then we will be glad to help.
