When you first start the SUV and go to drive around, it will run and drive perfectly fine. Once you drive a few blocks it starts to stay in first or second gear and rap out the rpm's and will not shift. Once you come to a complete stop it will pull out of gear totally like the transmission is out and will not go into any gear besides park. Once you shut the SUV off, let it sit for a little, and restart it the SUV will run and drive fine and repeat the issue.

It sounds like it is not able to build fluid pressure after you drive it a minute. It could just be a clogged transmission filter. You would have to service the transmission just to find out. And that job is not something you want to do in your driveway, because the cross member has to be lowered to get to a few of the bolts around the transmission pan.

It could also be that the screen on the pump is clogged. I am not big on trying the old "mechanic in a bottle" usually, but I have had some luck with putting Motor Purr in the transmission to solve this issue. It is a cheap thing to try before forking out $200.00 to service the transmission. Here is a link: https://www.ebay.com/i/162871792424?chn=ps

Hope this information is helpful. If not, I will get the attention of the other experts who know more about transmissions than I do.
