tercel 93 smoke

Hi:
My buddy is selling me his car for 500$, it is aTercel 93, 121.000 miles and when you press on the gas smoke comes out, what can be the problem? Will you buy it? The outside of the car it is almost in perfect condition. Thanks

Depends what kind of smoke coming out of the rear.

we need to know the color of the smoke before we can help.

This indicates that it is burning more fuel than it should. May be as simple as a bad oxygen sensor.

My opinion is to take it to a garage that you normally deal with and ask them to look it over. It may be $50 or whatever, but may reveal a potential scary needed repair. I have often found that the owner doesn't realize a problem exists and honestly believes there isn't when selling it. My experience shows that when you spend less than a thousand you need to spend another thousand of unexpected things pretty quick. Still that is cheap. Just like this forum is inexpensive, a small donation shows our donated time is appreciated :wink:

Depending on the area of the country you are located can make a difference. Here in
Niagara Falls,NY Road salt eats up cars and renders them unrepairable eventually. Not many 93's are in great shape up here, but that isn't everthing. I have a customer with an 82 pontiac that most people would have given up on. So have it looked it first. :)

I will do that, I'm in Ma and looking for an economic car, I have a Ram 2001 and it is killing me with the gas, fuel pumps and brakes. Thanks
